Welcome Class Of 2002

Hey ya’ll. It’s so great to see everyone doing well. I just wanted to stop by and give a little update. I was recently married on May 25, 2008 to Brandon Klewer (also class of ’02). We bought a house in Deep Creek last October; I can see Hardee Stadium from my backyard. No babies yet, but I’m sure they’ll come sooner or later, for now, we’re just happy being married. We own a business, Klewer’s Karaoke and DJ Service, and right now we are at Jalapeno’s by Chesapeake square mall every Saturday night if anyone wants to visit!!! Besides working our regular jobs and finishing up school, we just hang out with the family (also still ALL in Deep Creek). I can’t wait for the reunion, hard to believe it’s already been 6 years!!!! Gosh, I feel old! Well, that’s about it for now. Love and miss ya’ll!!!

Went back to school Dental Careers Foundation, for more experience and to further my education in expanded functions. I graduated top of my class received my Dental Pin. I'm currently in school now working on my bachelors to become a Hygienist. I got married on January 2, 2005 to Jasper Brown, from Green Run we been together 6 years now and were currently station at Fort Campbell, KY until 2012. He is currently serving his second tour in Iraq.

Police make arrest in killing of Ex-Deep Creek football player

Huntington, W.Va., police made an arrest Sunday in the killing of a former Deep Creek High School football star early Saturday. Donte D. Newsome, 25, died of multiple gunshot wounds at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington after an altercation outside a nightclub in Huntington, W.Va.. Two other men were also shot outside the Fluid nightclub at 3 a.m., but both have since been released from the hospital. One of those men, Jerel Addison Garner, 26, was arrested in connection with Newsome's death after his release from the hospital Sunday. He is charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond, Huntington Police Chief Skip Holbrook told The Herald-Dispatch newspaper in Huntington. Another man, a former Marshall University teammate of Newsome's, was treated and released Saturday. Police said it is unclear who shot Curtis Keyes, 24. Police are looking for another man who they said was involved in the altercation. Holbrook said Saturday that an argument started inside the club and was carried into the parking lot. Newsome starred at Green Run High School in Virginia Beach for three years. Frustrated with losing seasons, he transferred to Deep Creek in Chesapeake for the 2001 season. Deep Creek went 11-2 that year, reaching the state semi-finals. Newsome, who played linebacker and running back, rushed for 1,043 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. "He was a model kid," said recently retired Deep Creek coach David Cox. "I wish I could've had four years with the kid. I'm glad I had one." When Newsome came to Deep Creek, Cox recalled, Cox wanted to show the Green Run standout he'd have to earn his place. So Cox made him work out with the freshmen. "He didn't stay there long," Cox said. Cox showed his high esteem for Newsome by giving him the No. 2 jersey, the number once worn by Deep Creek star Deangelo Hall, who went on to play with Virginia Tech, then the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and Oakland Raiders. "As a coach, you take a lot of pride in who you put in somebody else's number," Cox said. "He filled Deangelo's shoes as well as anybody could have." Newsome graduated from Deep Creek to play at Division I football powerhouse Marshall University in Huntington. There, as at Deep Creek, he played on both offense and defense. After Marshall, he played with the Huntington Heroes indoor football team. This year, he was playing for the Amarillo Dusters in the Arena Football 2 league. For the Dusters, he had scored 11 touchdowns in eight games. "He was a team guy, not greedy... a great kid," said Cox, head coach at Deep Creek for 11 seasons. I was married in September 2007 to long time girlfriend Jennifer, which I met while attending Virginia Tech. I am still working for Accenture where I've been given the opportunity to help solve clients difficult business and supply chain problems and help them implement SAP - a leading enterprise software solution. I manage a team of approximately 20 offshore developers which has been a great experience. Sometimes the hours are kind of rough but I've been able to travel all over the United States which has been a blast. Jennifer and I live in Richmond where we recently purchased a home.

I went to school for medical assisting, but am now back in school working on a associate's in liberal arts, so that I can become a high school counselor. I just thought I would drop a line to the best class of Deep Creek High; the class of 2002. Seriously though, I am glad to see people of our class doing well and I think of you guys often. I'm at Armstrong Atlantic State University seeking a BS in Chemistry with American Chemical Society certification and a certificate in Forensic Chemistry. Matt is at Savannah College of Art and Design seeking a BFA in animation. We're both doing well.

I have gotten very involved with the Arthritis Foundation and plan to work with them at the chapter level upon graduation. Over the past two years volunteering with the Arthritis Foundation, I have helped the Virginia chapter raise over $200,000 dollars through three walks and a breakfast event.

I will be a STARS (Science and Technology Academicians on the Road to Success) tutor next semester. I was in the STARS research program during the past summer of 2003.

Brandi McCoy is starting back to school this summer and will be going to become a RN. She is currently living in Great Bridge with her husband (Troy Aubuchon, class of 2001). Corey McCormick is attending West Virginia University as a Music Education major. He is studying steel drums and West African drumming and dance, and hopes to one day have a group of his own that performs those styles.

PORTSMOUTH --Charles Lamont Rush, 24, of the 200 block of Chowan Drive, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007. He is deeply loved by his family and affectionately called "Deep C" by his friends. He was born Nov. 9, 1982, in Portsmouth. He was named after both of his grandfathers (Charles Rush and Charles Franklin). Mr. Rush was a former member of the United Full Gospel Revival Center in Chesapeake. He recently rededicated his life back to the Lord. He graduated from Deep Creek High School and attended Aviation Institute of Maintenance in Virginia where he received his Bachelor’s in Aviation Science. He was also a U.S. Air Force Disabled Gulf War veteran. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Charles Rush and a stepgrandfather, Lawrence Litton. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Meta D. Rush-Brown; his stepdad, Kenneth W. Brown Sr.; his father, Guy Franklin; sisters, Raena D. Rush of Portsmouth and Michele-la Hamlin of Norfolk; brothers, Darius D. Rush and Lloyd J. Harris; two grandmothers, Jessie Mae Rush and Ruby Mincey (Danny); grandfather, Charles Franklin; nieces and nephews, Reshaun, Bre’Aunna, Ty’Aunna, Chashaun and Sejaida; a beloved fiancé, Shauntrell Saunders; and many, many aunts, cousins, and friends. Winford Gospel "Jay" Felton III
HOUSTON, TX - Winford Gospel "Jay" Felton III, 24, of the 300 block of Airtex Drive, passed away Aug. 23, 2007. He joined Christian Home Baptist Church where he was baptized before leaving Chesapeake. He attended Deep Creek High School before entering the Potomac Job Corps Center in Washington, D.C., where he earned his high school diploma and plumber apprentice in 2003. Jay then returned to Chesapeake and worked as a plumber for W.H. McCutcheon Plumbing & Contracting Inc. in Virginia Beach. Staying true to his ambition to live his life to the fullest, Jay moved to Houston in 2005. There he attended Universal Technical Institute and studied collision repair and refinishing technology. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Ruby Felton; his father, Winford G. Felton II; two sisters, Tifany Lewis (Brian) and Teena Felton; his fiancee, Kristen Whitley; two grandmothers, Annie Whaff and Edith Meade; a grandfather, Winford G. Felton Sr.; two aunts, Bridget Lister (Timmy) and Gloria Sivels (Marquis); two uncles, Louis Gallop (Arlethia) and Melvin Gallop (Irish); and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
